In this paper we consider a supply chain of perishable products. The supply chain consists of a single production facility and multiple retailers and follows a daily production and replenishment policy. The daily demand at the retailers is stochastic. A discrete-event simulation model is developed to optimize production and inventory replenishment decisions across the supply chain. The objective is to minimize the expected total cost which consists of the inventory holding cost, the shortage cost and the replacement cost due to outdated items. The model is demonstrated with via an example of a single producer–two retailers supply chain |
